In 1833 the Sandwich Islands Mission commissioned J Denison to complete a large-scale wall map of the Hawaiian Islands. the original has not survived, but several separate portions have, in the form of contemporary copies made by the wife of Reverend John S Emerson (Ursula Sophia Newell Emerson). A pencil note reading: 'Copied by Mrs Emerson from a map prospected by a Mr Denison' can be seen under the map heading. |
