Description | Volume 2 of the passenger journal of the clipper Contest detailing a voyage from New York to Manila. This volume begins when the ship is in the Indian Ocean, heading for Anyer, Indonesia. The ship owners were [A A Low & Brother]; master was Captain Lucas; log keeper was William D Huntington, a passenger bound for Manila. The journal describes the ship, crew, passengers, provisions, shipboard activities, maintenance of the ship, sightings of ships and animals, wind, weather, location, port activities, and indigenous peoples. Includes passenger lists and an illustration of the deck plan of the ship. The author leaves the Contest in Hong Kong and continues to Manila on board the ship Sumatra. Journal does not continue while in Hong Kong. There is a summary and additional information about the ship and surrounding circumstances. |
