Description | Journal kept by John Conant on board the Richard Mitchell of a whaling voyage in the Pacific. The number of whales seen and caught was lower than expected, so the ship regularly changed location in an attempt to find more. Even when they had success they found it difficult to sell the oil they had obtained. |
