Description Collection of documents related to the shipping interests of the Graves family. Most are correspondence between members of the family and their business associates. There is also a printed pamphlet announcing the foundation of the Boston Lloyds insurance association, and accounts of insurance policies and claims.

William Graves Jr was a ship master and owner from Newburyport, MA. He was also involved in local politics, serving as alderman and mayor. His brother, Alexander (1823-1869) was a ship master and owner as well. Another brother, Edward (1831-1873) was lost at sea while aboard the Tennyson.
