Exploration and Discovery

China, America and the Pacific provides many sources that shine a light on the explorations and discoveries of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

This was a period of firsts. Voyages of the "Columbia" to the Northwest Coast 1787-1790 and 1790-1793 provides reports of the first ship to sail into the Columbia River. The Columbia was also the first American ship to circumnavigate the world. Meanwhile, Captain Davis of the Huntress (see Logbook of the Ship Huntress) claimed to be the first person to set foot on the Antarctic mainland.
