Description Papers relating to the steam schooner Midas, the first American steamer to go eastward of the Cape of Good Hope to sail the waters of China for the China trade. Includes three letters from William Poor to Robert Bennet Forbes, announcing the ship’s arrival in Mauritius, Singapore, and Macau, and describing the voyage and the ship’s performance. Also, chart format abstracts of the ship’s log from New York to Singapore and on to China. Brief stops were made at Mauritius and Macau.
