Description Journal of a voyage in the vessel Surprise from New York to Batavia and return, with Charles A Ranlett Jr as master. The vessel called at Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Foo Chow.It is a daily log that describes wind, weather, location, shipboard activities, cargo of oil, crew, sightings of ships, provisions and supplies, and sightings of fish and whales. Log does not continue in port.
