Description | The logbook of the ship Eclipse details a voyage from Salem to Manila, Philippines; Lintin [i.e. Nei Lingding Island in Lingding Roads], China; Whampoa [i.e. Huangpu Qu], China; and back to Salem (July 1831 to August 1832). Home port was Salem; owners were Joseph and George Peabody; master was William Johnson; log keeper was Simeon Beckford. It is a daily log describing wind, weather, location, shipboard occupations, and sightings of ships. Includes a sermon by Charles Flanders and illustrations of ships. Also includes three log entries for the schooner Catharine, detailing a voyage from Green Bank to Beverly, Massachusetts (Oct 1842). |
