Includes accounts of pirates, and an 'unfortunate affair' of a woman knocked overboard; consequently the crew had to hastily throw a cargo onboard to avoid their detention by the Chinese authorities. The Chinese authorities stopped all supplies to American boats. |

George Newell was a sea captain from Framingham, Massachusetts. He owned and mastered his own ship, the brig Malta, which he sailed primarily between Boston and Brazil, but he made voyages to numerous other locations.
