Title Francis Barrett Journal
Reference MSS 220/LOG 77

Collection Ships' Logs Collection
Date 5 Jun 1849 - 13 May 1850
Author / Creator Barrett, Francis
Description Journal kept by Francis Barrett while a mate onboard three ships, the Edward, the Norman and the Belle del Mar. The portion written on board the Edward provides an excellent view of relationships between different members of the crew, and the general disharmony and arguments that pervaded the voyage. The journal is written with humour and enlivened further by poems, songs and sketches throughout.
