Seth Low (1782-1853) was a Salem merchant who moved to New York in 1829 and established Seth Low and Company, a prosperous shipping firm. His son Abiel Abbot Low (1811-1893) founded a company under his own name, A A Low and Brothers, which specialised in the China trade.
